STRATEGIC ROADMAP SUMMARY

CCA’s U.S.-Africa Health Security and Resilience Initiative includes 4 strategic focus areas that have been identified as critical pillars for strengthening African health security and building resilience:

Why africa, Why now?

WHY AFRICA,

WHY NOW?

AFRICA IS BECOMING THE WORLD’S 2ND LARGEST HEALTH MARKET
Africa’s health market will be the second biggest market by 2030 at $259 billion, accounting for 14% of the global health market, with the U.S. at 21%.1

AFRICAN ECONOMIES ARE BECOMING MORE INTEGRATED
This is an ideal opportunity to create partnerships with companies that will collaborate to launch African manufacturing and research facilities for ‘the next pandemic’ and critical diseases, like malaria, HIV and NCD treatments.

AFRICA IS BUILDING ITS MANUFACTURING & RESEARCH FACILITIES
Goal: This is an ideal opportunity to create partnerships with companies that will collaborate to launch African manufacturing and research facilities for ‘the next pandemic’ and critical diseases, like malaria, HIV and NCD treatments.

AFRICA IS LOOKING TO GROW ITS TRADE & INVESTMENTS
Africa is already doing innovative things, but there are opportunities for trade and investment.

AFRICA IS LOOKING TO CREATE PARTNERSHIPS FOR STRONGER HEALTH SYSTEMS
The steps Africa will need to take to recover from the COVID pandemic will help create a much stronger healthcare system – partnering with private and public institutions.

Making the best of the COVID crisis

Making the best of the COVID crisis

VACCINATIONS IN AFRICA IS THE ROAD TO ENDING THE PANDEMIC
To end the COVID pandemic, the world will need to vaccinate at least 70% of all people.
The disparity in vaccination rates is emerging as the greatest threat to ending the global Pandemic.
Africa vaccination rate is under 10%.

AFRICA IS WORKING TO INCREASE ITS VACCINE SELF SUFFICIENCY
Only manufacturing 1% of the vaccines it needs leaves Africa vulnerable to supply chains.

AFRICAN UNION’S (AU) GOAL IS 60% VACCINE MANUFACTURING ON THE CONTINENT
The AU is seeking private sector investment to reach this goal by 2040. This goal is achievable if investment starts now!

AFRICA HAS CREATED UNIQUELY SUCCESSFUL GOVERNANCE PLATFORMS
While the needs are great, the opportunity is greater. We need a new model that gets beyond charity to commercially sustainable partnerships. (e.g. AMSP and AVATT).

THE PANDEMIC HAS SPURRED MORE INNOVATIONS ACROSS MULTIPLE SECTORS
African countries have shown some of the greatest public health innovations during the COVID crisis, particularly in digital health, replicating the incubator role they played in developing fintech.
